With the help of TechSpark experts, you will apply everything you learn to real-world challenges which culminate in a Practical Project. You can choose between coding and non-coding options, allowing you to develop your skills in an area of your choosing.

The Practical Project is a chance to pursue an area which interests you in more depth, building practical AI skills alongside expertise in related areas. Marcus du Sautoy is one of the UK’s leading scientists and the Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford. He has written many books on mathematics, AI and science. His fascinating speaking topics include The Secret of the Winning Streak: The Story of Maths and Why Beckham Chose the 23 Shirt.
Expert in AI, University Academic
Imran is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in AI and Machine Learning at the University of Oxford, with prior roles at INET Oxford, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, University of South Florida, and Brunel University London. Expert in AI, modelling and simulation, digital twins, and geospatial analytics, building large-scale computational systems for real-world impact across public health, climate, urban planning, and complex multidisciplinary domains.
University Academic at Oxford Robotics Institute
Joe is a postdoctoral research assistant at the Applied Artificial Intelligence Lab, University of Oxford. His research focuses on world models and robot learning methods for sensorimotor manipulation, and creating new algorithms for data-based robotics. He received his PhD in 2024 from the Intelligent Autonomous Systems group at the Technical University of Darmstadt, and was awarded a Senior Scholarship to study Information Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Prior to his PhD, he worked on developing Versius, a novel robotic system for laparoscopic surgery, taking it from prototype to product. He has also interned with Google DeepMind.

This programme is designed for curious, engaged students who are excited to spend part of their summer developing their understanding of AI. It is perfect for students who already enjoy learning about science and technology, and want to stretch their learning beyond the classroom and apply it to the real world.
No previous knowledge of AI, computer science or coding is needed. While coding skills are great, all modules come with coding-free options for students who are new to the subject. No knowledge of AI theory or practical use is needed, and software access is provided.
The course is designed to push bright students to take on new academic challenges by introducing lots of new concepts and practical tasks. While students are stretched, their learning is guided by expert members of our faculty and takes place in small classes, ensuring that every student feels supported and enjoys their learning while encountering new ideas.
While students do not need to be sure what they want to study in the future, some students will already be set on a university course. For students already considering how an Academy Royale International Exploring Artificial Intelligence Summer School can shape their future, the course is the perfect first step towards university applications. Students have the opportunity to ask their tutors and industry professionals for application advice. They also receive a certificate, grades and a report which make excellent supporting materials for a strong university application.
The course is very hands-on. Each module involves practical demonstrations and tasks, and the final Practical Project is a chance for students to immerse themselves in an extended piece of hands-on work. Students enjoy consolidating their learning through these practical challenges and getting to know their classmates during team challenges.
A typical morning involves a lecture and two seminars or workshops. In the afternoon students have another extended workshop or practical session. The rest of the day is spent socialising with friends during activities, enjoying delicious meals in inspiring campus settings and exploring the city.
The programme takes place in one of two inspiring campuses in the historic colleges of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Whichever location they choose, students have access to university-level facilities and teaching spaces.
By teaching in small groups, we ensure that each student has a personalised relationship with their tutor. This means they receive high-quality constructive feedback and any support they need in class. It also means that students bond with their classmates, creating a friendly atmosphere in which students get involved and ask questions with confidence.
Our students come from all over the world. Since our first summer school in 2004, we have welcomed students from over 175 countries. They speak a wide range of languages and come from a wide range of backgrounds, creating a vibrant community perfect for international students.
At the end of the course, students receive a graduation pack which contains a certificate acknowledging their academic achievements during the course. They also receive a personalised report and detailed grades.
